It was a sweet surprise from my boyfriend. He was keeping saying that he booked a restaurant a long time ago because he wanted the table to be in a specific room… Once I arrived, I understood why he had to reserve so many months in advance.
Clos Maggiore is in the heart of Covent Garden. From outside it seems a very common restaurant, but only going inside you will see the magic of this place and why it has been voted World’s most romantic restaurant. For sure if you will be invited to dine at this restaurant (or you booked it) is for a very special occasion. Dress to impress without exaggerations. I felt the ambience was very relaxed. I was wearing a cute cream-coloured jumpsuit and a nice pair of wedges. My boyfriend was wearing a long sleeves shirt, a pair of jeans and smart sneakers.
The most exclusive room of Clos Maggiore is called “Blossom or Conservatory room”
(Tables will be allocated accordingly to the booking date). If this beautiful room will be filled up already your table will be in the restaurant. Which is great, but not the same atmosphere.
Clos Maggiore is in Covent Garden, a very popular area for theatres and shows. Therefore the restaurant offers a large variety of menus perfect for who has a tight schedule or plenty of time to enjoy the experience:
- A la carte;
- Tasting menus;
- Set lunch;
- Pre & post theatre;
- Vegetarian & Vegan.
We started with a cocktail and as always I couldn’t choose.
I asked the waiter to help me out with the choice and he said: “Go for Berry Stinger it’s a signature cocktail at Clos Maggiore & You will be surprised.”
The ingredient looked sweet enough for me… Tanqueray No. TEN Gin, Port, Elderflower, Raspberry, Mint…
I got this, a cocktail served in a bird glass shaped, inside of a birdcage… And Yes, I was definitely surprised.
Clos Maggiore has a very wide menus. We needed couple of extra minute to place our order. As a starter, we had “Marcellin’s Heritage” Shoulder of Loire Valley rabbit & pan roasted Les Landes duck liver & grilled baby artichoke.
I didn’t really like the presentation of the shoulder, but it’s just my opinion. Both types of meat where tender and especially the duck was melting like creamy butter. Exactly the texture that you are expecting to eat.
We followed our starters by a poached fillet of organic Scottish salmon & oven-roasted free-range chicken leg. Even here, everything was extraordinary. The flavors were just so perfect and balanced.
My favorite part of the meal at London most romantic restaurant was… the Dessert
I have to admit that I’m weak when it comes to dessert… Probably because I’m not good at cooking and I always thought that baking dessert is impossible for me… (However now, during the covid-19 I discovered a new passion… cooking).
We had 3 desserts:
- Guatemalan coffee “Espresso Martini”;
- “Clos Maggiore caramelised Valrhona chocolate sensation (for 2);
- Baked natural Greek yogurt cheesecake with French Gariguette strawberries.
We decided to go for a wine pairing with each course rather than a bottle of wine, Also because in the next couple of hours I was about to fly to Marrakesh,
I prefer to be driest as possible when travelling.
I cannot remember what we drunk, however, they had my favourite sweet wine by the glass. Klein Constantia, Vin de Constance.
We roughly paid slightly less than £ 300.00.
We had a great evening. The food was great, the service was impeccable, the atmosphere even more. Definitely a place that you have to go.
Yes, Clos Maggiore is London’s most romantic restaurant.
